Sustainable Development Goals
Within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, migration is acknowledged as a potent catalyst for sustainable progress, fostering skills, fortifying labour forces, stimulating investment, and enriching cultural diversity, which in turn benefits both migrants and society. At the heart of it also lies the motto to “leave no one behind”, including migrants who are often disproportionally at risk of vulnerability. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) underscore the cross-cutting nature of migration. Notably, at least 10 out of the 17 goals incorporate targets and indicators directly tied to migration or mobility, and many indicators can be relevant for disaggregation by migratory status. However, migrants remain largely invisible in official SDG data in the Asia-Pacific region. The IOM Asia-Pacific Regional Data Hub, recognizing the significance of this, has undertaken the pivotal opportunity for strengthening the evidence base for migration, thus enriching the visibility of migration issues in development agendas and contributing to progress towards the SDGs.
